Our Mission Statement

Our Mission Statement

We are an active globally-minded group from Remuera Intermediate School in Auckland New Zealand, that are concerned about the important issues of today. We align ourselves with the values program of our school and endeavour to make a difference to our school and our community. We will organise special days throughout the year to build awareness of global issues such as the environment and peace. We will concentrate on service and being of benefit to others. Our time to change the world is at our Thursday lunchtime meetings with Mr Zemke.

Hello everyone!
Welcome back to the Social Changency blog for Remuera Intermediate School.

It's nearly Race Unity Week at our school. So in the spirit of racial unity we thought we'd share some quotes with you.

Here they are:

Martin Luther King Jr

§  I have a dream that one day little black boys and girls will be holding hands with little white boys and girls.

§  I look to a day when people will not be judged by the colour of their skin, but by the content of their character.

Rosa Parks

Racism is still with us. But it is up to us to prepare our children for what they have to meet and hopefully, we shall overcome.

Abraham Lincoln

Achievement has no colour.

S.R. Lakshmi Narayan

Judge a person by his or her heart not by the colour of the skin.

Nelson Mandela

No one is born hating another person because or the colour of his skin or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.

T.F. Hodge

Hating skin colour is contempt for God’s divine creative imagination. Honoring it is appreciation for conscious, beautiful-love-inspired diversity.

bell hooks

We judge on the basis of what somebody look like, skin colour, whether we think they’re beautiful or not. That space on the internet allows you to converse with somebody with none of these.

Alex Haley

Racism is taught in our society, it is not automatic. It is learned behaviour toward persons with dissimilar physical characteristics.

Laundry is the only thing that should be separated by colour.

Don’t hate what you don’t understand

Friends are made by friend’s heart not skin

Judgement prevents us from seeing the good that lies beyond appearances

There you go. We hope these help inspire you to take a stand against racism in our society.

If you go to our school don't forget that there is a poster competition that everyone can enter. All you have to do is make a poster about racial unity. The prizes are pretty cool as well so it's totally worth it.

There is also a slogan competition for classes so start thinking of some cool ideas!

Keep your eyes open for more amazing events happening at our school.

We hope you decide to join us in our fight against racism.
