Our Mission Statement
We are an active globally-minded group from Remuera Intermediate School in Auckland New Zealand, that are concerned about the important issues of today. We align ourselves with the values programme of our school and endeavour to make a difference to our school and our community. We will organise special days throughout the year to build awareness of global issues such as the environment and peace. We will concentrate on service and being of benefit to others. Our time to change the world is at our Friday lunchtime meetings with Mr Zemke in the Media Room.

Pray for Manchester
https://youtu.be/ATHstZhdSpQ
We were touched by the spontaneous singing that many joined in on. It was a truly emotional moment and we pray for those affected by the tragedy and those whose families that have lost someone.

Race Unity Speech winner
Earlier in May the Race Unity Speech Contest was held amongst secondary students from all around New Zealand.
A bit of background about the Awards:
The Race Unity Speech Awards and the Race Unity Conference were initiated by the New Zealand Baha’i community in 2001 and 2005 respectively. The Awards are sponsored by the New Zealand Police, the Human Rights Commission, the Hedi Moani Charitable Trust and the Office of Ethnic Communities and supported by NZ Federation of Multicultural Councils and Speech NZ.
The Speech Awards and Conference are primarily aimed at senior high school students in years 11, 12 and 13, but others who are interested are also welcome to attend. Although the topic varies from year to year, the theme is always around race. Students are given one or two quotes and several bullet points relating to the particular topic and asked to consider them when preparing their speeches.
Regional heats are held in 14 locations around the country and around 25 of the regional participants gather in Auckland for the national semi-finals and finals.
See https://www.raceunity.co.nz/ for further information.
Here's the winning speech by Tauawhi Bonilla from Te Aute College in Napier
It's a very inspiring speech and worth the watch.

World Environmental Care Day!!!
PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT!
Because World Environment Day is happening later this term on 5 June, the Social Changency wants to help the community of the school to be more aware of environmental issues and to seriously consider what can be done at school to improve our environment.
World Environment Day (WED) occurs on 5 June every year, is the United Nation's principal vehicle for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment. First held in 1974, it has been a flagship campaign for raising awareness on emerging environmental issues from marine pollution and global warming, to sustainable consumption and wildlife crime.
