Our Mission Statement

Our Mission Statement

We are an active globally-minded group from Remuera Intermediate School in Auckland New Zealand, that are concerned about the important issues of today. We align ourselves with the values programme of our school and endeavour to make a difference to our school and our community. We will organise special days throughout the year to build awareness of global issues such as the environment and peace. We will concentrate on service and being of benefit to others. Our time to change the world is at our Friday lunchtime meetings with Mr Zemke in the Media Room.

Our massive peace sign to mark the end of Peace Week at our school

We did it!!

It was the vision of The Social Changency to get lots of students involved so we could form a giant peace sign and we could get our Principal to use a drone camera to record it.

This was recorded on Friday 25 September to mark the close of Peace Week at our school - Remuera Intermediate School in Auckland New Zealand.

Peace Messages and Drawings on the School Playground for 'Random Acts of Kindness' Wednesday

'Random Acts Of Kindness' Wednesday went so well! It ended in an unexpected but awesome situation! It started with one person on their knees drawing peace signs on the court, and ended with more than fifty other people doing the same.

Let's just let the pictures explain themselves -

Peace Poetry

Students were invited to listen to some relaxing music and were given the following instructions.

  • Take the time to create an original poem.

  • You are free to use any type of poetic style.

Here are some of the poetry written by students from our school.

By Zoe and Alice

Peace poem

Peace is the calm wind

Peace is the flowing water

Peace is the endless green grass

Peace is laughing and having fun with family

Peace is the birds flying high

Peace is cherishing every moment of your life

Peace is lambs frolicking along the spring floor

Peace is a field of vibrant flower waiting to bloom

Peace is spending time with pets

Playing and laughing with peers

Enjoying every moment of life

Always look at the positive

Cherishing the time you spend with pets

Everyone should be peaceful

Peace Poem

Peace like the water

Always peaceful like the tree

Hanging in the wind

Peace Poem

Peace is the wind soft and serene,

Peace is the river flowing softly

Peace is the birds, flying high

Peace is a bundle of colors.

Peace is what makes us aware of our surroundings,

Peace is a field of flowers waiting to bloom

Peace is the rain tapping on the window

Peace is cherishing  every moment

Hear the water fall

Imagine somewhere you like

Take a big deep breath

Peace

What is the meaning of peace. What is peace.

And I am here to tell you about the meaning of peace,

what is the importance of peace and

why we need peace in our daily lives.

I am here to uncover these questions and share my opinion

of the definition of peace with you.

Now firstly, what is peace. I think that peace is not war like

or violent because it is horrifying and cruel,

peace is not words that harm others,

peace is free from disturbance and tranquillity.

The killing of George Floyd who is a 46 year old man was

filmed by inhabitants of Minneapolis, America.

And the pandemic of his death is because of racism.

And black, lives, matter.

This is not peace.

By Matthew...

Thank you so much to all those students that participated and shared their peace poems.
We are grateful to all of you.

On Monday, the 21st of September, we posted our new video, How To Be Hopeful: How To Be Happy 4.

We really hope you like it!!!!

Random Acts of Kindness Wednesday

On Wednesday of Peace Week (22 Sept) at R.I, we will be holding a random acts of kindness day!

We sent out a Google Form to all the students at Remuera Intermediate, asking them if they would like to be assigned a 'random act of kindness', so they could potentially make someone's day.

We were really glad to have received so many yes responses within only two days. We sent assigned 'random act of kindness' things to all the people who were willing to make someone's day, through gmail. What really made OUR day was the fact that a couple of people even replied to our 'assignment gmails' to them! It's heartwarming to realise how much some people cared, and the level of importance they gave to The Social Changency's goal, which is always to change your surroundings for the better, through little things or big.

We look forward to seeing even more 'random acts of kindnesses' on Wednesday!
