The Social Changency and Mr Zemke are so grateful to all of the students and teachers at RI for participating and supporting initiatives during the last two weeks. Please keep up the positive spirit to help others and show kindness as it will help make the world a better place.
Our Mission Statement
Our Mission Statement
We are an active globally-minded group from Remuera Intermediate School in Auckland New Zealand, that are concerned about the important issues of today. We align ourselves with the values programme of our school and endeavour to make a difference to our school and our community. We will organise special days throughout the year to build awareness of global issues such as the environment and peace. We will concentrate on service and being of benefit to others. Our time to change the world is at our Friday lunchtime meetings with Mr Zemke in the Media Room.

Room 8
On Tuesday afternoon Room 8 came together to tidy up the drama room for service week. First we tackled the most hardest closet; the props closet. There was rubbish and heaps of broken things that we cleared up. We made it look nice and organized. It took us a while even though we had about 6 helpers at different times. By the end of tidying up we were famished.

Room 12
For service week room 12 decided to go into some random classrooms and clean the desks. This picture shows some of room 12's students cleaning the desks in room 3. These students were very helpful because some of those desks were really messy.
This picture shows two kids picking up rubbish for service week. These kids are also room 12 which means they have been doing two projects for service week! On behalf of the social changency thank you to room 12 for really getting into this year's service week!

Room 27 during first Service Week
Polishing trophies by the Info Centre
For service week Room 27 kids did a variety of service jobs encouraged by our teacher, Miss Faulknor. One of the biggest jobs was picking up litter throughout the whole school. What we collected is shown in the photos below.
In the morning our teacher told us that we had to sit in front in the assembly today and when we went up the Principal was surprised at how much litter we collected and was really happy with our service.
Those that volunteered for the litter service job were: Ben, Hamesh, Ryan, Syronne, Alex, Dominic, Ethan, Hamish, and me Trishant.
Being acknowledged at Assembly in front of the whole school for cleaning up litter was really fun.
Extra to litter and polishing trophies, other Room 27 kids over two days of Service week 1 spent some of their free time and some time given by our Teacher to serve in other ways like weeding, tidying the shelves in the library and helping others around the school.

Room 3 service week project and new video
Room 3 Service Week Project, video and bake sale
During term 4, Room 3 is focusing on social action instead of just talking about the problems. We did this by doing many different projects to help global issues around the world. In this project the class is split into many different groups of two.
In these groups, we work together to create a powerpoint or any sort of document to talk about global issues such as poverty, global warming and maybe even refugee camps at Syria.
Our goal for service week is to become global citizens and contribute to the world by helping the cause of these problems. We make sure that our work is completed on time and that it has something to do with the topic we're actually working on.
During service week, Room 3 will think of many different types of actions to help these global issues for example: fundraisers, donations and even petitions. By doing these many different actions, we hope that we can contribute to global issues and that maybe we can help it even if it is just by a little bit.

The week after service week room 3 also held a bake sale to fundraise for global issues around the world!
With the $444 we raised with the bake sale, we will be donating the money to the following charities:
World Vision, Auckland City Council, Unicef, Greenpeace, Water care and many more.
These are letters we wrote to different organisations with cheques attached from the fundraising.
